Applications: This is a water soluble cosmetic active for skin lightening and complexion brightening.

Add to the base when the temperature has fallen below 60C and preferably when cold.
As the active is water soluble, it should be added either to the water phase or to an oil in water emulsion towards the end of manufacture. The product should be stored in cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight.

Solubility: water Soluble

Usage levels: 1-5%

Activity:

Anti-Ageing:  As the skin ages there can be a tendency for skin cells to shed more slowly leaving the complexion dulled due to oxidised melanin. This active helps to prevent the oxidation of melanin thus helping to keep the skin looking brighter and more youthful.

Acne/ Blemish:  Visible acne marks and scarring can be reduced by the application of an antioxidant rich skin whitening complex such as this.  Avoid use while being treated with a retinol type product from a dermatologist as the whitening complex may make the skin more susceptible to UV damage.

Whitening: Whitening of the complexion is achieved via preventing oxidation of melanin thus reducing the potential for an uneven complexion and marking.

IN VITRO

Purpose: Tyrosinase inhibition at low concentrations. Tyrosinase triggers melanin production which may be caused by UV radiation/oxidative stress. By reducing tyrosinase action, melanin production is inhibited.

In Vitro Testing.

Method: Mushroom tyrosinase assay that uses spectrophotometrical determination of the dopaquinone formation with L. Dopa as substrate.

Result:

- 100% Tyrosinase inhibition was obtained with 1.00% Whitening Complex.

- 50% Tyrosinase inhibition was obtained with 0.10% Whitening Complex.

IN VIVO

Purpose: Comparison of Whitening Complex vs Beta-Arbutin on the skin.

Method: 40 female subjects applied product containing 5.00% concentration of either Whitening Complex or Beta-Arbutin to the forearm twice daily for a period of 3 months.
