Demineralised water is water that has had it's trace mineral content reduced or removed. Typical minerals found in water include Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Sodium, Chloride, Sulphate, Nitrate and Bicarbonate.
Water that contains a high mineral count can interfere with your emulsifiers and solubilisers. The minerals can also provide microbes with the food required for growth. Because of that we strongly recommend using good quality demineralised water for all of your skin care formulating needs.
Mineral water and tap water and often used for making cold-process soap (Saponification) but are not recommended for the manufacture of general cosmetic products.
