Introducing Plantaserv M - A new paraben-free, formaldehyde-free and non-isothiazolone based preservative system for cosmetic formulations! Rigorous scientific testing has proven Plantaserv M to be highly effective against a broad-spectrum of bacteria, yeast and molds. As a clear liquid, Plantaserv M is versatile and easy to use. It is water soluble and has wide pH compatibility (pH 3 - 8) and low odour, which makes it ideal to use in formulations for hair, skin and makeup products.

Recommendations for usage: Use 1.0% in formulations. Can be easily added directly to most systems. For emulsified systems, can be added post-emulsification at temperatures below 45°C. Ideal for fragrance-free and fragrance-sensitive systems.

pH value: 3 - 8

Solubility: Soluble in water up to 1.2% and soluble in most glycols and in glycerin.

Compatibility: Compatible with most ingredients used in the Personal Care Industry. The activity of Benzyl Alcohol can be reduced in the presence of non-ionic surfactants like Decyl Glucoside. This doesn't necessarily mean this can't be used with non-ionics but more that Preservative Efficacy Testing is recommended, especially when the non-ionic content of the formula is quite high (over 5% as actives).  One way around this is to make sure the formula contains a preservative that has good oil solubility if the formula looks to be difficult. A good suggestion here might be glyceryl caprylate added at 0.1-0.3% to boost preservative efficacy.

Colour change - in some situations, metal ions (specifically iron) and ingredients in your formula may react with the Salicylic Acid to leave a slightly pinky tone to your formulation.

Aroma:  Characteristic of Benzyl Alcohol which is a little almondy but not as strong as Naticide.  The preservative note in your finished product can be overcome with fragrance or can just be part of your base odour.

Applications: Use in creams, lotions, body butters, sun protection and sun care products, lipsticks, liquid and cream makeups, eyeliners, pressed powders, mascaras, styling gels as well as shampoos and conditioners.

Note:   The only way to be sure that your preservative system is working in your product is to carry out micro testing.  While we are happy to pass on information and make theoretical recommendations of how to get the best out of our ingredients we can make no guarantees without this testing.  There are two levels of test that a microbiological lab will do - one is a micro count which gives you a 'moment in time' look at the cleanliness of your formula and may also characterise the microbes present.  The second is a Preservative Efficacy Test or PET. This is highly recommended as it tests how your product performs over time when it is challenged by microbes.   You are legally required to market and sell products that are safe and microbial stability is an important part of that.

Please note: This product may come with less than a 9 month shelf life. If used within the specified shelf life, it will not affect the preservative efficacy in a product.
