INCI: Cocamidopropyl Betaine.
Application: This is an amphoteric surfactant which means it acts as both anionic (cleansing) and cationic (conditioning) depending on the pH and concentration of the product. This, plus the surfactants foam boosting properties makes it a great choice in shampoo, body wash and 2-in-2 conditioning shampoos.
Activity: This surfactant is approximately 30% active in water.
Dose rate: Typically used at between 5-30%
Formulating Tips: It is best practice to combine different surfactant technology into a formula - hair or skincare so as to achieve a better cleansing action while keeping the formula as mild and gentle as possible. Therefore, Cocamidopropyl Betaine is often combined with anionics and non-ionics (Sodium Lauryl Sarcosinate and Decyl Glucoside). That said, it is possible to use this on its own.
