Botanical name: Linum usitatissimum
Extraction method: Cold pressed
Common uses: Flaxseed (Linseed) oil is a very popular, all purpose carrier oil. It is used by manufacturers (particularly as a conditioning agent in hair care products), aromatherapists, and massage therapists. It is particularly popular to use in skincare because of its very high Vitamin E content, which acts as a natural anti-oxidant that may help protect against free radical damage caused to the skin.
Its high levels of GLA essential fatty acids make it a nourishing and beneficial oil for dry and mature skin. Small amounts are often added to other carrier oils for fortification.
Consistency: Typical and characteristic of carrier oils
Absorption: Absorbs into skin at average speed, slight oil feeling left on skin.
