Ingredients: Glycerine
Glycerine is one of the most widely used ingredients in skincare. A clear, viscous liquid derived from vegetable oils, it works as a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air and holds it against the skin. The result is skin that feels softer, smoother and better hydrated. Our glycerine is derived from RSPO Mass Balance certified palm sources, making it a sustainable choice for natural formulators.
In formulation, glycerine also increases the solubility of some actives such as herbal extracts and perfumes, acts as a moisture reservoir to stop a product drying out, and provides cost-effective skin conditioning.
Raw material origin: naturally derived from palm, RSPO MB (Mass Balance)
What does RSPO MB mean? RSPO stands for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, a global organisation that sets standards for growing palm oil in a way that protects forests, wildlife and the rights of workers and local communities. MB stands for Mass Balance, a supply chain model where certified sustainable palm oil may be mixed with non-certified palm oil, but volumes are strictly controlled. Choosing Mass Balance material supports the production and increased use of RSPO certified sustainable palm oil.
Extraction method: Esterification of Vegetable Oils
Suitable for: Skincare, makeup, haircare, cleansing products and baby care
Recommended dosage: Typically 1-5%, depending on application
Formulation tips:
- Add to water phase (water soluble)
- Heat stable
- Can be used to create slurry with gums for ease of formulating
Note: While glycerine is self-preserving it is not a preservative. High levels of glycerine in a formula may impede microbial growth, however this is usually higher than the average cosmetic formula can bear, therefore making this an impractical way to keep a product preserved.
