Features: Roman Chamomile is a fragrant perennial plant with feathery, fern-like leaves and branched stems that grow close to the ground. It produces daisy-like flowers and is native to Western Europe, but it is now cultivated in countries such as England, Belgium, France, and Hungary.

Properties/Benefits: Roman Chamomile Oil is a naturally complex essential oil composed of a balanced mix of aromatic esters and terpenes. These naturally occurring constituents work together to create its soft, calming, fruity-floral aroma, making it highly valued in skincare, hair care, and aromatherapy products when properly diluted. Its composition also determines how the fragrance opens, develops, and settles in cosmetic formulations. Some of its primary constituents and their typical aromatic contributions are as follows:

  • Isobutyl angelate: The main constituent of Roman Chamomile Oil, forming its soft floral-fruity base. It gives the oil its smooth, calming character and is strongly associated with soothing skincare products for sensitive or delicate skin.
  • 2-Methylbutyl and Isoamyl angelates: These esters create the signature green apple-like aroma. They provide fresh, light, and uplifting top notes that make the oil feel bright and clean in lotions, creams, and aromatherapy blends.
  • Methallyl angelate: A minor but important aromatic component that adds gentle spicy-floral complexity. It refines the overall scent, helping the oil perform well in premium fragrance and cosmetic formulations that require depth and natural elegance.
  • Isobutyl butyrate: Contributes a soft fruity lift that enhances the initial scent impact when the product is applied. It improves fragrance diffusion, giving a fresher and more noticeable opening in emulsions and leave-on skincare.
  • Alpha-pinene: Provides a crisp, clean, slightly resinous green note that balances the sweeter esters. It supports a fresh, natural impression often used in revitalising skincare and hair care formulations.

Supplier Information: Our Chamomile Roman Essential Oil supplier is known for producing high-quality Chamomile Roman. The supplier is a well-established, family-run farm that has been cultivating and processing Chamomile since the 1960s. The farm is currently managed by the second generation, with the transition to the third generation already underway.

This farm processes approximately 400 tonnes of plants annually, turning them into dried herbs, fresh plants, or essential oils. It spans around 300 hectares in Anjou, with 70 hectares directly cultivated by family, and remaining land managed through plantation contracts with other local farmers, ensuring consistent and sustainable production.

In addition to cultivating plants, the farm also provides wild-harvested plants through a network of professional foragers. However, for larger demands, they prioritise cultivation to protect natural resources and ensure sustainability.

The farm cultivates a diverse range of about 100 different plant species each year, harvesting various parts including roots, aerial parts, leaves, and flowers to produce high-quality essential oils.
