Botanical Name: Squalane
Description: Our sugar cane derived squalane is highly bio-compatible, stable and super hydrating for the skin. Chemically speaking squalane is a hydrocarbon with a linear structure, closely related to squalene, the ester that we produce in our skin as part of our natural water-resistant lubrication. While squalane is oily and oil-soluble, chemically it is an ester (vegetable oils are typically triglyceride structures which are heavier and more bulky). Because of its structure it feels and performs quite differently to whole vegetable oils.
Vegetable squalane is colourless, odourless and suitable for all cosmetic purposes. If it is used in soap making it will not saponify and will remain part of your unsaponifiable fraction (super-fat).
