Summary
This pure, spray-dried Apple Juice powder delivers a concentrated natural blend of phenolic antioxidants, fruit sugars, fruit acids and soluble fibre to your cosmetic product.
Key Antioxidants
Catechin, Epicatechin, Chlorogenic Acid.
Origin:
Botanical (Fresh fruit)
Process:
Produced by taking freshly juiced apples and spray drying them. Spray drying concentrates the antioxidants naturally present in the fruit juice. The process also stabilises the phytochemicals by drying off the water. As most apples contain around 80% water when fresh, 20g of this apple juice powder would provide the same antioxidant hit as you would get from a 100g of fresh apple juice.
Appearance:
Yellow tinged particulate. Free flowing when dehydrated
Odour:
Mild, characteristic of apples but not strong enough to be used as a major odour active.
Solubility:
Largely water soluble but some precipitation of fibre upon standing. Filtration recommended when adding to sprayable liquid products.
Not soluble in oil.
pH:
Around 3.5 for the powder reconstituted into water.
Heat stability:
Will tolerate heating for a short time but best to add into your formula once the temperature is below 50C
Use instructions:
To create a re-constituted apple juice mix 1 part apple powder to 4 parts water (20% powder to 80% water). Add to your formula in the cool-down phase if possible and for best stability, maintain a product pH of below 5. Final product pH is a more important factor in polyphenol stability than heat treatment during manufacturing.
Typical use level:
Between 1-20% on an ‘as supplied’ basis but can be used in higher quantities if required.
Examples of applications:
- Capture the goodness of apples in your moisturising creams by turning the water phase into apple juice.
- Use as part of your antioxidant actives package by adding 1-10% of reconstituted juice to your finished product.
- Use as the water phase in your hydrating spritz.
- Add the dry powder to your shampoo bar or dry clay mask. It will re-hydrate during use and give you a fresh burst of antioxidant goodness.
- Add the powder to your melt-and-pour soap bases as a natural colourant.
