Completed our two day cosmetic chemistry course? Been working in the industry for a while and want to go beyond the basics? Then this is for you.

The emphasis of this one-day course is to focus on the actives that we use in the cosmetic industry and how we formulate to get results safely.We look at the structure and chemistry of the skin, discuss how to choose base ingredients to maximise the formula efficiency and look at different ways of delivering actives in a cosmetic formulation.

The course includes example formulation templates, formulating hints and tricks, all-natural base options and step-by-step concept building for active skincare.

Course Highlights:

  • Active Ingredients Identification and Action - Vitamins, Peptides, Minerals, Omega Fatty Acids, Anti-Wrinkle Actives, AHA's/ BHA, Skin soothing ingredients and more.
  • The skin structure and how far ingredients have to penetrate to work.
  • Formulating Serums.
  • Formulating Emulsion based delivery systems.
  • A closer look at professional products - Masks, Exfoliators (AHA's).
  • Efficacy testing and making claims.
  • Sunscreens overview.

Amanda Foxon-Hill is a consultant Chemist and Science Communicator with over 14 years of experience in the global cosmetics industry. She is a peer-reviewed writer, after dinner speaker and lecturer in all aspects of cosmetic science. She is also passionate about working towards a more sustainable and "greener" future and regularly facilitates natural personal care workshops for the public via her 'Realize Beauty' business. Amanda also consults to the cosmetics industry on all aspects of green chemistry and product development and advocates the promotion of sensible science to consumer groups via her blog
Amanda has a degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Cosmetic Science and Formulating.

New Directions will make every effort to ensure that the workshop and the program content will take place as advised. Please note however, New Directions reserves the right to cancel or make changes to any workshop and its content at any time as circumstances dictate. In the event that a workshop is cancelled by New Directions, the registrant will be entitled to a credit or refund to the value of the cost of the workshop only. New Directions will not be financially responsible for consequential losses such as airfares, accommodation and so on. Should a workshop be cancelled, registrants will be notified by email or phone with as much notice as possible. Every effort will be made to provide a workshop of equivalent standard and value at a future date and registrants will be advised of the same.
Workshop Booking Cancellation Policy:
Once a workshop booking has been confirmed, all workshop bookings are non-refundable however may be transferred to another date if available, gifted to a nominated person, or a credit to the maximum value of the workshop can be saved to use for purchases of New Directions products and services via the website, over the phone or within our showroom. Workshop booking cancellations must be made no later than 7-days prior to the scheduled date of the workshop.
