Product Description
Ingredients: Cocoamide MEA, Glycerine, Ethanolamine
Cocamide MEA is made by combining a triglyceride, usually from vegetable oils such as palm or coconut with monoethanolamine, a primary amine. The amine group gives the ingredient its water soluble powers turing the fatty material into a surfactants.
Cocamide MEA is used in foaming formulations such as shampoo, body wash and bubble bath to increase the viscosity and foam stability of the product.
Cocamide MEA is responsive to salt thickening and will reach its maximum viscosity with around 1% of salt (but this is formulation dependent). Highly viscous foaming formulations are attractive because they are easier to handle in the shower and give a stronger, more luxurious foam.
NOTE: Cocamide MEA can be used as a substitute for Cocamide DEA although it is not a drop-in replacement due to its different structure. Cocamide DEA contains a secondary amine and these are more likely to react to form nitrosamines than primary amines (which are far less reactive). While Cocamide DEA was restricted to 0.5% in cosmetic formulations Cocamide MEA is not restricted.
Environmental: Cocamide MEA is biodegradable.
Typical use levels: 1-3% but can be used at a higher level if required.
