Did You Know? Cistus ladaniferus grows wild across the Mediterranean, particularly in southern Spain, where it thrives in dry, sun-exposed landscapes. This resilient shrub is well adapted to harsh environments, including areas affected by bushfires, where it often becomes a dominant species. In Spain alone, it covers millions of hectares, with large regions where it flourishes naturally without cultivation. The plant is harvested entirely by hand, typically during the hottest months from July to October, when oil yield is at its peak. Despite the abundance of biomass, estimated at up to 20,000 tonnes annually, the essential oil yield remains very low, around 0.1% to 0.2%, contributing to its relatively high value. Interestingly, the management and harvesting of Cistus not only provide a renewable raw material but also support vegetation control in fire-prone regions.

Suggested Storage: Store below 30°C in a sealed container, away from direct sunlight.

100% True to the Botanical Name, GMO-Free, Non-Irradiated, Preservative-Free, Vegan-Friendly, Petrochemical-Free.

Supplier Information: Our Cistus Essential Oil is sourced from a family-run operation with roots dating back to the 1960s. Originally focused on the wild harvesting and distillation of native plants such as Cistus, the business also worked extensively with Lavender Aspic, Thyme, Rosemary and Sage. Over time, in response to growing demand and the need to secure consistent supply, the supplier introduced cultivated plantations and expanded its sourcing by building a network of trusted agricultural partners. Today, while a significant portion of the plants distilled comes from cultivated sources, this extended network plays an important role in supporting overall production capacity. With more than 75% of its production exported globally, the supplier has built strong experience in meeting international market requirements.
