Features: Borage Refined Oil is derived from the seeds of the borage plant, also known as starflower because of its bright blue, star-shaped flowers. It is valued in cosmetic formulations for its moisturising properties and light, smooth texture. The oil is easily absorbed and leaves the skin feeling soft without a heavy or greasy residue. It is well suited to formulations developed for dry or mature-looking skin, including facial serums, creams, body oils and other moisturising products.
Properties/Benefits: Borage Refined Oil is one of the vegetable oils containing a high level of gamma-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that contributes to the oil’s beneficial properties for the skin, helping to preserve its suppleness and elasticity. Other main fatty acids include:
- Linoleic Acid: A fatty acid that contributes to a soft, smooth skin feel.
- Oleic Acid: This monounsaturated fatty acid contributes to a moisturising skin feel, making it suitable for use in body butters and hair conditioners.

Did you know? Borage is well suited to a range of Australian growing conditions. Reaching approximately 60–100 cm in height, the plant has a naturally loose growth habit and may benefit from being planted in groups for added support. Its distinctive blue, star-shaped flowers appear during the warmer months before the plant dies back as winter approaches.
