Ingredients: Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract
Significant antioxidant benefits thanks to the activity of Carnosic Acid, Carnosol and Rosmarinic acid. Antioxidants can help with product and skin protection.
Because of its high antioxidant capacity rosemary extract is a great addition to any high-oxidation risk water-containing formula or for formulations being applied to prevent premature ageing or to guard against environmental protection. This water-phase antioxidant can be used as a stand-alone antioxidant in a water-heavy formula or can be paired with oil soluble antioxidants such as Vitamin E and Rosemary Antioxidant for broad-protection in water and oil formulations. It is also worth noting that while this extract can be quite brown in colour, it has a very low odour and so is much easier to work with than Rosemary Antioxidant which has a distinctive Rosemary aroma.
Solubility: This extract has a low degree of water solubility as supplied and may produce a cloudy-ish solution indicative of the fact that the extract won’t fully solubilise. We recommend, in most situations, to prepare your herb into a demineralised water and alcohol mix (20% alcohol, 80% water) then filter out any residue before adding it to your product.
Use Amount: This herb is 36 times more potent than fresh Rosemary so to create a single strength liquid extract you would add 2.8g of herb to 97.2g of water and then filter it. You could use that water as-is in your formula (so as your water phase) or you could take that single strength liquid and add it into your formula at any percentage.
Typical Dose: 1-10% of a 1:1 liquid extract.
Heat Stability: Very high. You could use this as your water phase in an emulsion and heat it but it is more typical to use this as an extract and add it at the end of manufacturing.
Cosmetic Function: Antioxidant, environmental protection.
