Botanical Name: Camellia Sinensis
Green Tea extract is used internationally in Cosmetics, as it is a rich source of anti oxidants, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Green tea extract is hailed in the Natural Skin Care Industry. Green tea extract is said to help repair the effects of aging and environmental factors. The active constituents in green tea are the Catechin - Polyphenols. Green tea catechins are potent antioxidants.
How To Use in Cosmetics: While Green Tea extract is highly soluble in water when added it is usuall to find some grainy un-dissolved particulates. Therefore we advise making a solution with the green tea and then filtering it prior to adding to your batch to prevent these undissolved grains causing micro issues or issues with the skin feel. If you are making a powdered product this step isn't required.
Amount Required: This green tea extract is 28 times stronger than fresh green tea so is to be used sparingly. We recommend adding between 0.1-1% to your finished product.
Note: Green tea is not green! It has an orange colour and will oxidise to a browner colour over time. Products containing green tea extract should be stored away from light and preferably in airless, UV protective containers to preserve its antioxidant power.
Numbering: The number system for herbs is displayed as a ratio showing you how much stronger the powder is vs the plant. So, in this case you would need to ad 28 times more fresh green tea lead to achieve the same quantity of actives as you get with 1 part extract. It's that powerful!
PLEASE NOTE: Our green tea is not always green! As this is a natural herb powder the colour can vary with the most usual colour being brown-orange rather than green. As a consequence of this you may notice batch to batch variations in your green-tea containing formulations and this is perfectly normal for natural cosmetics.
