Product Description
Ingredients: Polyglyceryl-6 Polyhydroxystearate, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Polyglycerin-6, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate.
This ingredient is designed to be used as your primary or only emulsifier in water-in-oil emulsions.
Supplied as a white fluid blend, Emulium Ilustro can be used in cold or hot processes making this a very versatile and convenient way to create elegant rich emulsions which have water as their internal phase.
The key technical strength of this emulsifier is in its pigment dispersing ability being great for high pigmented, creamy colour cosmetics including lipsticks where a water phase or water soluble actives are desired, zinc creams, SPF moisturisers and foundations.
Origin: Naturally derived from Rapeseed and Castor oil
Palm Free: The polyglyerol esters are palm free but the blend also contains antioxidants (Vitamin C and E) which may be palm derived.
Use Level: 3-5% is typical.
Solubility: Oil phase.
Chemistry: Non-ionic
pH Compatibility: Good
Formulating Tips: Water in oil emulsions tend to be more stable when a salt is added into the water phase. Adding a salt such as Magnesium Chloride at 0.5-1% and/or Sodium Chloride at 0.5-1% helps to prevent the water phase from freezing and cracking the emulsion in cold temperatures.
Emulium Illustro requires that at least 70% of your oil phase is made with polar oils. This means most vegetable oils will not be compatible with this emulsifier on their own. Silicone oils are also incompatible with this emulsifier unless combined with a polar emollient as above.
Examples of polar oils you can use as the dominant factor in your emulsion are:
* Natural Silicone Alternative (Isoamyl Laurate)
* Heptyl Undecylenate
* Isopropyl Myristate
* Castor Oil (the only vegetable oil that has some polarity to it).
