Ingredients: Dimethicone
Dimethicone is a type of silicone commonly used in skincare, haircare and cosmetic formulations.
Benefits: Dimethicone fluid reduces the surface tension of a formulation allowing it to spread easily across the skin or hair. It forms a smooth, protective barrier on the skin or hair, helping to lock in moisture and improve texture, giving a silky, invisible feel to emulsions. Dimethicone can be used in colour cosmetics to enable 'oil free' claims.
Solubility: Soluble in Isopropyl Myristate, Palmitate and Laurate and Lauryl Alcohol. Insoluble in water, ethanol and vegetable oils.
Note: Dimethicones are a family of silicones which are differentiated by their cSt, a standard unit of measure for kinematic viscosity. 100 cSt is thinner than 350 cSt and as a consequence feels lighter on the skin. The range in viscosity for silicone fluids runs between 5 cSt and 60,000 cSt with the higher end ingredients being soft spongy gels and the lower end of the scale being light fluids. Dimethicone 100 cSt is a medium-thin fluid that is lighter on the skin. It is recommended for hair serums and color cosmetics because it enhances shine and provides slip without leaving heavy residue. Dimethicone 350 cSt is commonly used in lotions, creams, body balms and general skincare. It gives a smooth, cushioned feeling to the skin by creating a breathable, non-greasy barrier that traps moisture.

Application: Use up to 0.1% to de-soap a cream or lotion. Use between 1-10% in skin and haircare. The higher amount with facilitate barrier formation.
