Product Description
Ingredients: Portulaca Oleracea Extract
Portulaca (common name Purslane or Pigweed) is an Australian native. It is widespread globally and has a history of culinary use being mentioned in the Middle east as a salad vegetable. The leaves are rich in vitamin C, A and B vitamins. The seeds were used by indigenous Australians to make a flour with extremely high Omega 3 oil content.
When topically applied it has virtually no toxicity and can help improve the appearance of pimples and swelling, itching and irritation.
Solubility: This extract is best solubilised in a water: alcohol mix. Filter out any residue before adding it to your product.
Use Amount: This herb is 4 times more potent than fresh Portulaca so to create a single strength liquid extract you would add 25g of herb to 75g of water/ alcohol mix and then filter it (people typically use 20% alcohol: 80% water). You could use that water as-is in your formula (so as your water phase) or you could take that single strength liquid and add it into your formula at any percentage.
Typical Dose: 1-10% of a 1:1 liquid extract.
Heat Stability: Very high. You could use this as your water phase in an emulsion and heat it but it is more typical to use this as an extract and add it at the end of manufacturing.
Cosmetic Function: Skin soothing, conditioning and anti-itch.
